Brian J. McManus, Sr. did his undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then attended law school at DePaul University Law School graduating in 1973 with a Juris Doctorate degree. Brian, Sr. was then admitted to the practice of law in the State of Illinois and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in 1973.
Brian, Sr. started his legal career in the Illinois Appellate Court doing appellate work for the Honorable Justice Thomas McGloon. After approximately one year in the Appellate Court Brian, Sr. took a job with a small well-known Chicago law firm where he worked for three years in the general practice of law. He thereafter worked for another Chicago law firm which practiced in labor law, workers’ compensation law and personal injury law.
Brian McManus, Sr. opened his own private practice in approximately 1981 and thereafter incorporated his business in May 1985 as Brian J. McManus & Associates, Ltd. Brian J. McManus & Associates, Ltd. has been in existence since 1985 and has spent the last 27 plus years concentrating its practice in the representation of the tragically injured. The firm has never represented any insurance companies and has confined its practice to the aggressive and professional representation of the injured in claims against Corporate America and the Insurance Industry. The firm has fought vigorously both in the Circuit Courts and the Appellate Courts to protect the rights of those tragically injured in work related accidents as well as the victims of negligence in various other settings.
McManus, Sr. has tried numerous jury cases to verdict and settled hundreds of personal injury cases as well as several thousand workers’ compensation claims over his career which has spanned in excess of 38 years in private practice. A complete listing of celebrated verdicts is beyond the scope of the biography but certain celebrated cases include; Kristin Lee Happel v Northwest Community Hospital, malpractice verdict approximating $5 million dollars, Dominic Lombardo v. Reliance Elevator Company, et al., an elevator failure verdict in excess of $1 million dollars, Ramona Cimbalo v. Lake Shore Auto Sales, et al., an automobile verdict in excess of $1.6 million dollars; Betty Hughes v. Alpha School Bus Company, a high verdict in DuPage County for a back injury sustained in a bus accident as well as many famous construction negligence cases including Richard Hollis v. R. Latoria, Inc., a case that established the law as to when the plaintiff is entitled to a new trial on damages only.
McManus, Sr. has always prided himself as being a complete lawyer not only handling trials but also any appeals arising out of those trials. Brian, Sr. stands by his belief that any case accepted by Brian J. McManus & Associates, Ltd. must be handled in the same manner, namely, with the total energy commitment of the entire staff including a never say quit attitude and relentless determination to achieve success. The firm has stood true to this commitment since its incorporation. McManus, Sr. continues to make this promise to all of the firm’s clients to this day, namely, “We will not quit on you until justice is obtained.”
